There are two ways to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 untethered. If you are already on a tethered jailbreak, you can just download a Cydia package, and if not you will just need to run Redsn0w on your computer.

NOTE: This will not work for the iPhone 4S or iPad 2, although those jailbreaks should be coming soon. Also, this will not work on iOS 5.0, so update to 5.0.1 before you try it.

Option 1: Already Jailbroken Tethered

If you already have a tethered jailbreak, just reload your data in Cydia and search for the package “Corona”. Install it and you jailbreak should now be untethered.

Option 2: Not Jailbroken

This will probably be the case for most people, and means that you have not had any jailbreak applied to your device. If this is so, jsut follow the directions below to jailbreak your device untethered.

Step 1: Download the latest version of Redsn0w (0.9.10 beta 1) from here: Mac / PC.

Step 2: Open Redsn0w. You should see this screen:

Step 3: Select “Jailbreak”. You should now be at this screen:

Step 4: Plug your device into the computer and turn it off. Then click “Next >”.

Step 5: Follow the on screen directions to put your device into DFU mode. Your screen should look like this:

Step 6: Let Redsn0w complete the process, and you should be done!

How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Semi Untethered – iPhone, iPod, iPad with RedsnOw 0.9.9b9b :

Step 1: Connect your iDevice with your PC via USB, and open iTunes then Restore to iOS 5.0.1 (If you are already running iOS 5.0.1, bypass this step)

Step 2: Start Redsn0w 0.9.9 b9b, and press on “Jailbreak” button

Step 3: Now select “Install Cydia” and click “Next”.

Step 4: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.

Quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Step 6: Once current Redsn0w jailbreak is still tethered jailbreak, you will be required to connect your iOS device with your computer and run Redsn0w again then choose “Extras” > “Just Boot” and follow instructions (This will help you to fix white Cydia icon problem). You will be required to make this step every time you reboot your device (This will prevent you from stuck-ing on Apple logo)

Jailbreak iOS 5 Semi untethered. As most of you know that the Dev team are working hard to port iOS 5 untethered jailbreak to iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, 3G. The BigBoss has announced about iOS 5 semi untethered jailbreak or to be accurate (semi tethered jailbreak), whatever it called, let’s show you what does semi tethered jailbreak means after the jump.

What’s tethered jailbreak :

Tethered jailbreaks are frustrating because they require a computer connection to boot a jailbroken iOS device. The concept of a tethered jailbreak has been around a long time, but essentially it means this: every time your iPhone or iPod touch reboots or the battery dies, you have to connect (tether) your iOS device back to your computer so that the hardware can boot with the aid of the jailbreak application.

What’s untethered jailbreak :

An untethered jailbreak is the preferred jailbreak because it requires no connection to your computer except for the initial jailbreaking process. You can reboot your iPhone or iPod touch as much as you want without having to tether it to your computer to boot. If the battery dies on a device that has an untethered jailbreak, it’s no big deal you just charge it again and it will boot as usual.

What’s Semi-Tethered jailbreak means :

The main issue of tethered jailbreak is that you need to connect your device to computer to use Redsn0w “Just Boot” tethered option every time your reboot your device. Semi-tethered jailbreak come specially to fix this issue, as it allows you reboot your device without connecting it with computer. So now you have untethered jailbreak on iOS 5. But the main issue is that 99% of jailbreak apps and tweaks won’t work at all. So what now ? Semi-tethered jailbreak is only a protection for you if your device reboots while you were away from your computer, but you will be able to use the most important functions of you iPhone until you get home and connect it with Redsn0w.

Semi-tethered jailbreak iOS 5 Supported Devices :

iPhone 4

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 3GS New Bootrom

iPad 1

iPod Touch 4G

iPod Touch 3G

Semi-tethered jailbreak iOS 5 Un-Supported Devices:

iPad 2

iPhone 4S

While using Semi- Tethered jailbreak – Working Functions :

Can use phone, sms (text messages)

Can use every other stock app on iPhone.

Can use other appstore web browsers such as atomic web browser

While using Semi- Tethered jailbreak – Not-Working Functions :

Cannot use mobile safari

Cannot use mail app. You could install a gmail app from appstore or such instead.

You cannot use any jailbreak tweak, app, cydia until you boot tethered.

While in the semitether booted state, you should not add a jailbreak ios5 notification such as sbsettings to notifications during this state or your device will be stuck in a respring loop until you get home to “boot tethered”.

How to Semi-Untethered jailbreak iOS 5:

Step 1: You must install iOS 5 on you device and tethered jailbreak it

Step 2: Now, open Cydia > Manage > Sources.

step 3: Tap on Edit > Add and insert the following repository

http://thebigboss.org/semitether

Step 4: Search for SemiTether and install it then reboot your device.

Step 5: Now congratulations, now you have protected your device and you will never stuck on Apple logo again

How to downgrade iPad 2 3G (GSM / CDMA) from 5.0.1 / 5.0 / 4.3.5 to 4.3.3 for untethered jailbreak ? Well, Notcom, the talented and well-known iPhone developers has just created a new tool called TinyCFW that helps iPad 2 3G (GSM / CDMA) and iPhone 4 users to downgrade their devices to iOS 4.3.3 for untethered jailbreak.

Why to downgrade iPad 2 from 5.0.1 / 5.0 to 4.3.3 ?

As most of you know that the only jailbreakable firmware on iPad 2 is iOS 4.3.3 which has been jailbroken with untethered jailbreak JailbreakMe 3.0 few months ago. Many of iPad 2 users have accidentally upgraded their devices to 4.3.5 / 5.0 or 5.0.1 which broke the untethered jailbreak. Notcom, has successfully found a trick that able to make the iPad 2 3G can be downgraded via a custom 4.3.3 firmware to re-enjoy the untethered iPad 2 jailbreak on iOS 4.3.3.

What TinyCFW is:

It will modify an existing ipsw for an ipad2 gsm/cdma or iphone4 gsm/cdma

It WILL modify the ipsw TO UPDATE YOUR BASEBAND TO THE LATEST!

It will create an ipsw that you can use with TinyUmbrella AND iTunes to restore to a version of iOS that you have SHSHs for.

It is primarily for iPad2 with a baseband OR iPhone 4.

What TinyCFW is NOT:

A jailbreak

An unlock

A tool to protect your baseband.

A tool that will restore your device to any firmware

A tool for use with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPad, or iPhone 4S

Requirement :

You MUST have iOS 4.3.3 SHSH blobs.

Download iOS 4.3.3 for iPad 2 (GSM / CDMA)

iPad 2 WiFi

iPad 2 GSM

iPad 2 CDMA

Download iTunes (Windows / Mac)

Download TinyUmbrella (Windows / Mac)

Download TinyCFW (Windows – Jar)

How to downgrade 5.0.1 / 5.0 to 4.3.3 on iPad 2 3G (GSM / CDMA) :

Step 1: Start TinyCFW application (double click on the jar or run the .exe file). You must have java and at least 2.5gb ram.

Step 2: Once the window comes up, click the top button and choose iOS 4.3.3 ipsw.

Step 3: Click the second button. The app will scan it and tell you the firmware and baseband versions in the ipsw you selected (iOS 4.3.3) and the firmware and baseband versions that will be in the target ipsw

Step 4: Click ‘Save Target IPSW’. This will take a minute or two and when it is finished, you will have a file named:

<your original ipsw name> .bbupdate.ipsw.

Step 5: Now we will start restoring iPad 2 to the new custom firmware created above, we will use iTunes and TinyUmbrella to do this. Now open Tinyumbrella and make iTunes look at Cydia’s Server in the “Advanced” options.

Step 6: Plug your iPad 2 and switch it off

Step 7: Put your iPad 2 in DFU mode (If you don’t know how to put your device in DFU mode)

Step 8: Select the custom firmware you created above manually to restore your iPad 2. (Shift on Windows, and option on a Mac)

iTunes will till you that it will talk to Apple servers but actually it will talk to Cydia servers.

Now you have successfully downgrade iOS 5.0.1 / 5.0 to 4.3.3 iPad 2 3G.

How to unlock iPhone 4 / 3GS on 5.0.1? As most of you know that iPhone Dev-team didn’t updated ultrasn0w to support iOS 5.0.1 so far. Some hackers have successfully developed a fix to unlock iPhone 4, 3GS on iOS 5.0.1. Let’s see how after the jump.

Important Note: You MUST have a jailbroken iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.0.1 with preserving the unlockable baseband. In the meantime sn0wbreeze is the only jailbreak tool that supports iOS 5.0.1. Current version of Redsn0w, can only jailbreak devices but still does not support preserving baseband for 5.0.1. (You can download Sn0wbreeze from here)

Supported Basebands :

01.59.00

04.26.08

05.11.07

05.12.01

05.13.04

06.15.00

How to unlock iPhone 4 / 3GS 5.0.1 with Ultrasn0w Fixer :

Step 1: First thing is to open up Cydia from your iDevice.

Step 2: Go for the ‘manage’ >‘sources’ > ‘edit’. Finally to ‘add’, here you paste in the URL:

http://cydia.myrepospace.com/smolk/

Step 3: Now you get to the source and you will find two options for ultrasn0w unlocks. One is for iPhone 4 while the other would be for iPhone 3GS.

Step 4: You must opt for the option that best suits you and install it. A reboot would get your application working.

Our Recommendations : we highly recommend to wait until the iPhone Dev-team update ultrasn0w to unlock iPhone 4 / 3GS on iOS 5.0.1 as it will be more stable and free of bugs.

It has been a few days since we have heard anything from the world of Siri, but now we have some big news about a tweak that has just been released into Cydia. The tweak, called “H1Siri” is available at the repo “”http://www.cydia.be”. This tweak enables the full Siri GUI, and successfully connects to Apple’s servers, as of now it appears that there is not any real fuctionality that it provides, other than responding to phrases, but this is clearly a huge step in the right direction. Read on for instructions on how to install Siri on iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G.

1. Add the correct repo to Cydia. This can be accomplished by going to the Manage -> Sources -> Edit -> Add and typing in “http://www.cydia.be”

2. Go to the “Search” tab and type “H1Siri”

3. Install the package and continue as prompted.

4. Go to setting -> General -> Siri and switch it “On”

5. Hold the home button and siri will appear.

There are many bugs and people have claimed that this works off and on. Tell us your experience below.

Apple has seeded iOS 5.1 for all iPhone, iPad 2, iPad, and iPod touch users who are enrolled in the iOS developer center. The software update is only seeded for developers. iOS 5.1 is available for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, and iPod touch 4G, 3G.

iOS 5.1 release notes:

Introduction

iOS SDK 5.1 provides support for developing iOS applications and includes the complete set of Xcode tools, compilers, and frameworks for creating applications for iOS and Mac OS X. These tools include the Xcode IDE and the Instruments analysis tool among many others.

With this software you can develop applications that run on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 5.1. You can also test your applications using the included iOS Simulator, which supports iOS 5.1. There are two Xcode iOS SDK 5.1 images, one for installing on a Macintosh computer running Mac OS X 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard) or later, the other for installing on a Macintosh computer running Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).

This version of iOS is intended only for installation on devices registered with Apple’s developer program. Attempting to install this version of iOS in an unauthorized manner could put your device in an unusable state.

For more information and additional support resources, visit:

http://developer.apple.com/programs/ios/

Bug Reporting

Please report any bugs not mentioned in the “Introduction” section using the Apple Bug Reporter on the Apple Developer website (http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/). Additionally, you may discuss these issues and iOS SDK 5 in the Apple Developer Forums: http://devforums.apple.com. You can also access more information about iCloud for Developers at:http://developer.apple.com/icloud

Notes and Known Issues

The following issues relate to using the 5.1 SDK to develop code.

Accounts

When creating an iCloud account, you can use any Apple ID as long as it is a full email address and not a MobileMe account. If you have a MobileMe account, you can move that account to iCloud. You can find more information at: http://me.com/move

APIs

The
NSNetService
class and CFNetService APIs do not include P2P interfaces by default. To browse, register, or resolve services over P2P interfaces, an application needs to use the Bonjour
DNSService*()
APIs noted below.

Setting the interfaceIndex parameter to
kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexAny
in the following API’s will not include P2P interfaces by default. To include P2P interfaces, you must now set the
kDNSServiceFlagsIncludeP2P
flag when using
kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexAny
or set the interfaceIndex to
kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexP2P
. The affected APIs are:

DNSServiceBrowse

DNSServiceRegister

DNSServiceResolve

DNSServiceRegisterRecord

DNSServiceQueryRecord

GameKit

App Icons and Profile Photos are not loading in apps using Game Center.

iCloud Storage

Provisioning profiles must be enabled for iCloud in the iOS Provisioning Portal. You can enable a provisioning profile for iCloud by navigating to the App ID section of the iOS Provisioning Portal and configuring your App ID for iCloud. After enabling the App ID for iCloud, regenerate your provisioning profiles to enable them for iCloud.

The
setSortDescriptors:
method of
NSMetadataQuery
is not supported.

In iOS 5, files that are protected via Data Protection cannot be used with iCloud Storage APIs.

File names are case-insensitive in Mac OS X but case-sensitive in iOS. This can lead to problems when sharing files between the two using iCloud. You should take steps on iOS to avoid creating files whose names differ only by case.

Finally Unlock 4 Team has released Windows/Mac version (Lion OX and Windows 7 64 bit) of software untethered jailbreak and unlock iPhone 4 ios 5, iPad, iPad 2 and iPod touch. And just like the Mac version, Windows version is compatible with iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G/3G/2G, iPad and iPad 2 with iOS 5.
Unlock 4 Team has finally released the much awaited software which brings full untethered iOS 5 unlock jailbreak for all iOS devices. You can jailbreak iPhone 4 iOS 5 device out of the box on iOS 5 using this latest version of software.

To Jailbreak and Unlock your iPhone Visit the official website www.unlockiphone4.org

The following instructions will help you jailbreak/unlock iOS 5 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 2G/3G/4G, iPad and iPad 2.
Up until now, there was no other solution but use a beta version of the software, is very stable. I don’t know if this release will be better than RedSn0w as there isn’t much information about this version of GreenPois0n so far.

All we know is that this software it works with the iPhone 4 and 3GS, and iPhone running iOS 5. Even better, unlike another softwares, you won’t need to have your 42b3 SHSH blobs saved in order for GreenPois0n to work. One thing is for sure, this version of this software will hacktivate your iPhone.

Jailbreak iOS 5 untethered and unlock iphone 4 ios 5 possibility. Few days ago Apple has released iOS 5 locked for iPhone 4, iPhone 3Gs, iPod touch 3G, 4G, iPad and iPad 2. Our readers are asking about jailbreak 5 untethered for iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G, 3G, iPad 2 and 1, so let me show you the full situation. The Unlock 4 Team has released an updated version of its Software utility that allows you to jailbreak your favorite iOS devices running iOS 5. The good news about this new release is that the utility will perform an untethered jailbreak, which means you can reboot the device without having to have it tethered to your computer. This version is new and I haven’t tested it myself yet, but from what I am hearing there may be a few problems with the utility so you might want to wait a while before using it.

The Unlock 4 Team has unleashed the the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, which means you don’t have to re-root your phone after every reboot. Some provisos, though: the jailbreak is available only for Mac users, and the unlock 4 team website seems to be down, so you can’t actually download the jailbreak. Also, according to the excited Engadget commenters, it sounds like the installation of the jailbreak is a little bit finicky. he reason for the new movement is that Apple has now closed the loophole hackers have been using up until iOS 5. Now there’s obviously no point in waiting for the new update to be released it’s been decided that Unlock 4 Team will go ahead as-is, with a new attempt at 5 to be made later. iPhone hacker Pod2g has also confirmed this on Twitter:

That’s great news on 3 levels. First, I’m sure plenty of you have been waiting for an untethered jailbreak iOS 5 for a long time now. Second, the new software will work on ALL hardware. It’s great to hear that nobody will be left out in the cold this time around. Thirdly, it’s good to hear a release isn’t too far away.
